Jesus Revealed

Part 2

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.

Colossians 1:15a (NLT)

He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else…

Colossians 1:15b-17a (NLT)

What are my God-created potentials?

  1. God made me for ________________________.

  1. God made me for care of the creation.

Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

Genesis 1:26 (NLT)

Thoughts and questions for discussion: We each have been gifted with talents and abilities to care for creation. Some may have a passion for the ocean, the forests, lakes and rivers, plants or animals. Through our care for His creation we can discover His heart for His children. He loves because He is Love. What areas do you find your heart leading you? In what environment do you best discover the love God has for you? How has He revealed Himself to you?

  1. God made me for wholeness with myself.

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27 (NLT)

Thoughts and questions for discussion: By design we are created individually in the image of God with an innate desire for community. Of course, we do enjoy long periods of quiet time to clear our busy minds, but we are designed to help each other through life. When we come to the realization our identity is found in the Creator and that we are exactly what He intended us to be, then we find completeness. There is a joy in recognizing Jesus paid a great price for us to find peace in Him. How have you found wholeness in your life through a relationship with Jesus? Is it freeing to know God designed you perfectly?

  1. God made me for community with others.

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”

Genesis 2:18 (NLT)

Thoughts and questions for discussion: The term “helper” is the key word to understanding all our relationships; but most importantly, our relationship in marriage. Many of us have tried to find the person who completes us, fixes us, or takes care of us and we have missed the target completely. God designed us for helping each other, building each other up and being a team. When you put your name in place of “helper” in your relationship with your spouse, how do you measure up? Are you more interested in what they need, or what you want? How can you make a change?

  1. God made me for intimacy with God.

Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.

Genesis 2:25 (NLT)

Thoughts and questions for discussion: Intimacy has been said as; “into me you see”. It’s seeing deep into the heart of a person. God also desires an intimate relationship with us where we can see deep into His heart. Jesus was God in human form and lived by displaying the heart of God through His actions. He loved those who were broken and perceived as far from God. He healed the sick, showed mercy to those who had sinned and drew the absolute best out of everyone He met. How have you seen deep into the heart of God? Did the gospel of John tug at your heart to draw close to the breast of Christ Jesus and lean into Him? How have you allowed God to pour deep into your heart? Did you find conviction or condemnation? Did He still show you mercy and grace? Has forgiveness poured through you?
