Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Part 4 in the series A Thrill of Hope
The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.
Luke 2:20 (NLT)
They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
Matthew 2:11 (NLT)
Why do we worship Jesus?
Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King; Peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th’angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!” Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
John 21:15a (NLT)
Christ, by highest Heav’n adored; Christ the everlasting Lord; Late in time, behold Him come, Offspring of a virgin’s womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see; Hail th’incarnate Deity, Pleased with us in flesh to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel. Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
So they left by boat for a quiet place, where they could be alone.
Mark 6:32 (NLT)
Hail the heav’nly Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Ris’n with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, Born that man no more may die. Born to raise the sons of earth, Born to give them second birth. Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King!”
She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.”
Mark 5:27-28 (NLT)

Why do we worship Jesus?
1. Because Jesus is our Reconciler!
Thoughts and questions for discussion: Even though Simon had denied knowing Jesus and fled with the others, Jesus sought him out and let him know he was still valuable to Him. He tells Peter the same thing and He tells us He will not leave us even when we have turned our backs to Him. He will reconcile us to Himself and to our Father God. When have you turned your back on Jesus? What has He done in return to welcome you back?
2. Because Jesus is our Companion!
Thoughts and questions for discussion: Jesus wants a relationship with us. He wants us to be with Him and to spend the time alone getting to know Him and the Father. We are called to spend time with Him and to not concentrate on all the problems around us. As we walk with Jesus as our companion, we are not alone. We will find strength to persevere through the troubles of this world. How have you found Jesus as your companion? Share about Jesus walking with you.
3. Because Jesus is our Healer!
Thoughts and questions for discussion: I love this verse. Jesus is on His way to heal someone else and this woman, who has been sick for years, had enough faith in Jesus that she only wanted to touch the bottom tassels of his robe to be healed. That takes courage to go through a crowd of people that would stone her to death if they knew her situation. Jesus is all about healing the whole person; mind, body, and spirit. Her body was in need of a healing so she could rest in the healing of her mind and spirit. Do you know anyone who has experienced a miracle of healing? How did that change them?
