Christ in Me

Part 4

And this is the secret: Christ lives in you.

Colossians 1:27b (NLT)

How can the Holy Spirit live fully in me?

  1. When I _________________________________.

This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NLT)

  1. When I ________________________________________.

You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT)

  1. When I ________________________________________.

Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers—why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother’s milk! There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

2 Timothy 3:15-17 (The Message)

  1. When I _______________________________________.

Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

2 Timothy 4:5b (NLT)

Part 4

And this is the secret: Christ lives in you.

Colossians 1:27b (NLT)

How can the Holy Spirit live fully in me?

  1. When I use my spiritual gifts.

This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NLT)

Thoughts and questions for discussion: The Holy Spirit gifts each of us with special gifts to help the church operate as the body of Christ. All the gifts are interconnected and important to the whole body. Grace Church offers an opportunity to discover how God has uniquely gifted you to serve with your passions through a workshop called, “S.T.R.I.D.E”. It is also important to learn how our gifts work and where we can best serve the church. By exercising our gifts we can discover purpose and passion for life which can help fan the flame of our gifts. Have you learned what your spiritual gifts are? If so, share with the group. If you aren’t familiar with your gifts, mark your calendar to attend the next “S.T.R.I.D.E.” workshop on October 4, 2014. Find out what your spiritual gifts are and meet the ministry leaders to find out where you can plug in.

  1. When I live in rich spiritual friendships.

You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

2 Timothy 2:2 (NLT)

Thoughts and questions for discussion: Getting involved with the church is a big decision. It is a good idea to find people walking and talking the faith and living in a way that emulates Jesus. Start spending time with people and ask real life questions. Start doing life together, serving together, sharing meals together and studies together. There are opportunities to get together weekly or monthly in a small group and to help each other stay accountable and to grow more Christ-like. Who do you see that emulates the Christ-likeness that you seek? Are you in a small group? How does that help your walk with Jesus? Are you looking for a small group? Be bold and start pursuing rich spiritual friendships.

  1. When I am shaped by the Word.

Thoughts and questions for discussion: The Word of God, the Bible, is our guide and can be Gods voice in our conversation with Him; just as Paul wrote to Timothy about its usefulness in all areas of our lives. From Genesis to Revelation it is all there and we should spend time reading and studying. It is amazing how the Holy Spirit will reveal different details when we read the Bible, no matter how many times we read a certain scripture. As we learn what the Bible teaches and the big step of applying it to our lives we become what Paul calls a “new creation in Christ” (2 Cor. 5:17). The Word renews our minds, strengthens our faith, and guides our decisions to a more free life. How have you found new hope and strength from spending time in the Word? Do you consistently study? Why or Why not?

  1. When I share the Good News.

Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

2 Timothy 4:5b (NLT)

Thoughts and questions for discussion: Each of the previous lines build to the ultimate goal of sharing the Good News. With guidance from the Spirit we learn the best way to share our hope and faith. Through spiritual friendships we can grow and learn how to answer tough questions about why we believe what we believe. And by studying the Word we learn exactly what the Good News is that we are sharing. We share the love of God through the sacrifice of Jesus and by His resurrection we are saved and renewed through His Spirit by accepting the gift He offers each person on earth. How are you sharing the Good News? How do you leave an example of being an ambassador of Christ Jesus? Ask each other the questions that are holding you back.
