God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. There is one God, eternally existing in three co-equal persons of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is eternal, all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present, actively involved in creation and human history.
Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14
Humans are both sacred and sinful. We were created in the image of God to be in relationship with Him, but sin separates us from the relationship we were intended to enjoy. We are spiritual, moral, and relational beings, but our disobedience, which the Bible calls sin, distorts God's image in us.
Genesis 1:27; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:2; Psalm 8:3-6
The only way to restore our relationship with God is through Jesus Christ, who lived a sinless life, died for our sins, rose again, and will return to rule forever. Jesus’ sacrifice reconciles us with God, and salvation is available by grace through faith—not by our own efforts.
John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 2:8-9
The Holy Spirit draws people to Christ, equips believers, and empowers the Church—the community of those who follow Jesus—to grow and serve under His leadership. The Church exists to help people grow in their relationship with Jesus and serve the world in His name.
John 14:26; Acts 1:8; Romans 12:4-8; Ephesians 4:11-13
The Bible is God’s Word to humanity, divinely inspired and authoritative for all we believe and how we live. Written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it is the final standard for truth and living.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; Psalm 119:105; 2 Peter 1:20-21
Grace is God’s unearned love and mercy. John Wesley understood it in three forms: prevenient, justifying, and sanctifying grace. Our Methodist heritage is rooted in this understanding, calling us to live out grace with practical faith.
Conversion is the spiritual rebirth and turning toward Christ. It may be sudden or gradual but marks a new beginning in faith. This experience involves repentance, assurance, and a desire to live differently in response to God’s love.
John 3:3-7; Acts 2:38; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 10:9-10
Believers are assured of their salvation through the Holy Spirit, God’s promises in Scripture, and the fruit of the Spirit in their lives. This inward witness confirms our identity as God’s children and gives us peace and confidence in our walk with Him.
Romans 8:16; 1 John 5:13; Galatians 5:22-23; 2 Corinthians 1:21-22
Faith and good works are inseparable. True belief expresses itself through action, mission, and service. As Wesleyans, we hold that faith must be lived out in acts of compassion, justice, and love for neighbor.
James 2:17; Ephesians 2:10; Matthew 5:16; Titus 3:8
We offer our lives in service, joining God’s mission in the world to seek justice, love others, and renew communities. Love of God is always tied to love of neighbor, and we are called to serve with passion and purpose.
Micah 6:8; Matthew 28:19-20; Galatians 6:9-10; 1 Peter 4:10-11
The Church is both nurturing and missional—a community that grows in faith and serves the world, empowered by God's grace. There is no solitary Christianity; we are formed and sent through the fellowship of the church.
Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:24-25; Ephesians 2:19-22; Matthew 5:14-16
We celebrate two sacraments:
God calls and equips both men and women for pastoral leadership and proclamation in the Church. God’s gifting is not limited by gender, and Scripture gives examples of women faithfully leading in ministry.
Joel 2:28-29; Acts 2:17-18; Romans 16:1-7; Galatians 3:28
God creates each person as male or female, both reflecting the image and creativity of God. These two distinct sexes are designed to complement one another and reflect God’s nature.
Genesis 1:27; Matthew 19:4; Psalm 139:13-14
Marriage is a God-instituted covenant joining one man and one woman in lifelong union. All people are of sacred worth. Celibacy is affirmed outside the covenant of marriage, and every person is welcomed into the body of Christ with love and friendship. Our sexual identity is a gift from God, and we believe all followers of Jesus are called to live in holiness and love.
Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6; Hebrews 13:4; Ephesians 5:31-33; Romans 12:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:18-20; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, begotten from the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made; of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried. The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will never end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life. He proceeds from the Father and the Son, and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and to life in the world to come.
Amen.
