Kairos

Kairos LogoThe word Kairos means “God’s Special Time “

Kairos prison ministry is involved with men, women and youthful offenders. Kairos ministry international is made up of 8 paid employees and 20,000 volunteers all around the world.

Kairos volunteers come from many Christian denominations, but present only those principles that are shared in common.

Kairos is a lay-led, although clergy play a vital role. The weekend consists of eleven talks and many meditations. Each day has a different theme.

A Kairos weekend starts around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and ends around 2:00 p.m. Sunday. A Kairos team has between 30 and 45 men who go into the prison, and around 6-9 men and women who serve on the outside team, praying, cooking and running errands for us.

The team meets for eight weeks prior to the weekend for bonding, training for each position we do. We go into the prison as one in God, and share one main topic which is to listen, listen, love, love.

As a team member, we are committed to go back once a month for a reunion group, where we share in music, testimonies, and share groups. The men really look forward to us coming, and we look forward to seeing them also.

The recidivism studies show in Florida and South Carolina, found that Kairos experience brought a drop in the amount of return of inmates by one third, when compared to those who do not.

Kairos is widely recognized as a highly effective program, which helps to change the attitudes to positive. We do two weekends a year. There are a number of ways to be involved,

1)    Be a team member

2)    Be a prayer partner

3)    Be a support volunteer, someone who helps on the outside during the weekend.

4)    Be a ministry financial booster.
